MediSpeech: Automated Medical Reporting with AI

Universidade Fernando Pessoa (UFP) is a co-promoter of MediSpeech — Improved efficiency in automated medical reporting to enhance doctor and patient experience, an international project that uses artificial intelligence to write medical reports from the conversation between doctor and patient.
What the project does
The team is helping to build a platform that combines artificial intelligence with real-time automatic speech recognition. The platform:
- converts the conversation between doctor and patient into text;
- fills in Electronic Health Records automatically;
- generates clinical reports in several languages.
The main goal is to reduce the administrative burden on health professionals, giving them back time for patient care, supporting more personalised diagnoses and making medicine more humane.
Team at UFP
At UFP the project is coordinated by Daniela Mendes, physician, researcher and lecturer at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (EMCB), leading a multidisciplinary team. From LIACC @ UFP, the researchers are:
- Prof. Christophe Soares
- Prof. Rui Silva Moreira
Consortium and funding
MediSpeech is part of the ITEA cluster of the Eureka Network. It brings together 19 organisations from four countries — Portugal, the Netherlands, Türkiye and the United Kingdom — and runs until 2028. UFP’s participation is funded by the COMPETE 2030 programme.
