Project Smart Space for Eldercare
The aim of this project is to equip the homes of older people who live alone with technology that supports their daily activities.
The prototype under development uses equipment already found in the home (TV, telephone), sensors (presence, temperature, light), actuators (smart switches) and other smart devices (medication dispenser, vital-signs monitor, activity detector, fall detector). With these devices integrated on a suitable middleware platform (openHAB), the system can follow and assist the person in their daily tasks.
The system is intelligent: it learns from the user and performs sensor fusion. This lets it detect emergencies and respond to them at once, and also analyse behaviour over the long term, identify patterns and suggest changes to the daily routine that benefit the person’s health.
